Leftover gammon is one of the most versatile ingredients to have on hand after a big family meal or holiday feast. And what better way to transform those savoury, smoky slices into a comforting new dish than with a warm and creamy potato bake?

This Leftover Gammon and Potato Bake is not only hearty and flavourful, but it’s also the perfect way to turn kitchen odds and ends into a meal your whole household will love.

This recipe is essentially comfort in a casserole dish. Thinly sliced potatoes and leftover gammon are layered with a velvety Dijon-spiked cheese sauce, baked until bubbly and golden on top. It's rich, creamy, and deeply satisfying — exactly what you want on a chilly evening. It’s a fantastic solution for minimising food waste while maximising flavour, making it an ideal weeknight option that still feels indulgent.

Serve it on its own or with a crisp side salad or green beans to balance out the richness. This bake proves that leftovers can be just as exciting as the original meal — if not more so.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked gammon, diced

  • 3 medium potatoes, thinly sliced

  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk

  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a medium baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.

  2. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute to form a roux.

  4. Stir in 1 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.

  5. Layer half the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the baking dish. Top with half the onions and half the diced gammon.

  6. Pour over half the cheese sauce. Repeat with remaining potatoes, onions, gammon, and cheese sauce.

  7. Sprinkle the top with the remaining 1/2 cup of cheddar and all the Parmesan.

  8. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 15–20 minutes until golden and bubbling.

  9. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley.

Suggerimenti per cucinare il Gammon Bake avanzato
